Well, seeing how I am laid up for the next month to recover from re-constructive surgery on my shoulder and bicep I finally put pen to paper and got the initial design for Indian River Studios done. Of course there will be several revisions and upgrades but I must admit, I am really excited at the prospects of having my dream studio on the board. I think one of the things that excites me more than anything is the musicians in the from the Adirondack Region will now have a world class facility to record their music, in the Adirondacks at prices which are in all honesty dirt cheap. I will be posting the plans in the next few days.

New Gear!!!
There is nothing in the world like new gear!! There is nothing in the world like new gear which makes you a) sound better and b) works well. I recently purchased a Presonus Audiobox USB interface with Studio One software. This is one amazing piece of equipment! The pre-amps are fantastic! You have 2 XLR and TRS inputs, two TRS 1/4" outputs Midi in and out and a phones channel. The folks at Presonus really made a great piece of equipment here. The Presonus Studio One software is amazing. I have unlimited channels, more effects than I can shake a stick at, Toonz Drums and the ability to master a Redbook CD. I am so excited with the unlimited possibilities that I now have! I will post some songs once I am done recording.

DAW or Stand Alone
There are two schools of thought here. Some folks are dyed in the wool Stand Alone recorder guys. The portability and ease of use are attractive to them. Others are in the school of DAW. I have worked with both and for the longest time preferred the stand alone units. I have made the decision to upgrade into the DAW world for my main studio. The idea of unlimited tracks and the ability to add and upgrade software with ease is a big part. I also love the idea of having the mastering capabilities with unlimited potential. Does this mean that my Studio B will also be DAW, no..I like the idea of having the old school systems around for different genres. All in all this should be a fun experience.

What is the Soul of Tone??
This blog is dedicated to recording music, the gear I use and just how much fun or frustration can come up with the whole process. The gear I use is all listed and is what I prefer. This does not mean that it is what everyone should go out and buy. Some folks hate Boss and Tascam, I love them. Others like gear which I don't care for. So it is all subjective. I will try to impart any advice I can to help out anyone who reads this. If I don't have the answers I will find them. There are no dumb questions and no perfect folks here! So come on in and sit back and enjoy the studio!
